Blums Almanac

Blums Almanac - Since 1828
Blum's Farmers and Planters Almanac was started in Salem, North Carolina, in 1828 by John Christian Blum. The original Blum's Almanac cost 10 cents. Since 1828, folks like us have been countin' on Blum's Almanac for planting by the signs, gardening by the moon, and just about everything else the seasons throw our way. This year's edition is once again packed full of weather forecasts, moon phases, everyday advice, good humor, Mrs. Blum's recipes (oh yes - we swear by her sweet potato pie), planting tables, gardening tips, advice, folk remedies, and much, much more.
With its easy-to-read format and month-by-month breakdowns, this almanac takes the guesswork out of knowing when to plant, prune, and harvest. - practical wisdom so you may have a fruitful, well-timed year.
Whether you're working the garden or planning a vacation, family reunion, wedding, or outdoor get-together - when the weather's in question, it's always best to plan with Blum's!
"Before my Grandma Eva would put a single seed in the ground, she pulled out the almanac. It's not just for gardening either - she and her friends plan the whole community chicken-killing by the moon phases, swearing that if you butcher on the wrong moon, your breasts and drumsticks won't keep. Some of her old home remedies came straight from those pages too. If a kid ran a fever, she would tell you to stick raw potato slices in their socks overnight. Got a black eye? A dab of lard'll fix it right up - at least in her book." - written and shared by Erica a customer service representative at Red Hill
If you're the kind who trusts the almanac and appreciates the old ways, here are a few more tried-and-true favorites you'll want to keep around:
Black Walnut Crackers - These heavy-duty tools make quick work of tough shells. If you've ever tried cracking black walnuts by hand, you know why this one's a must.
A Grease Lamp is one of the oldest forms of lighting. These simple little lamps burn clean with just a wick and some fat or oil. Their soft glow is peaceful and a perfect way to end the day.
Our made in the USA Washboards are still as useful as ever for making music, scrubbing laundry or just looking good leaned up by the porch. Built to last, and proudly made right here at home.
Rosebud Salve is a little tin of magic. Good for chapped lips, dry hands, minor cuts - and just about anything else your grandma used it for.
Classic and reusable, our
Glass Milk Bottles with lids are great for fresh milk, cream, water, juice or even as a simple vase for wildflowers from the yard.
